The Metropolitan Costume Institute Gala is the red carpet event of the year. The Met Gala carpet is better than the Oscars, Grammys, Golden Globes and Emmys put together.
The Met Gala is a chance for designers to walk the carpet and show off their designs first hand. The carpet is solely about the outfits and who is wearing what, no mandatory media interviews every two feet answering the same questions. The models, actresses, influencers, singers and designers plan for this night in New York City for over a year. So what makes the Met Gala THE Gala? Exclusivity. Tickets to the Gala are $30,000 each, a table is $275,000 and even if by some miracle you can afford that you must be invited by Vogue to even get in. Unlike the regular red carpet shows, where the real entertainment starts inside, the Met is all about the walk into the Gala as the public never get to see the show. The most the public will ever see of the inside is Snapchats and Instagram posts by the exclusive guests. This is why celebrities love to feel the eliteness of attending such event.
This year the theme was Commes des Garcons below are my personal favourite choices:
To start us off is Gigi Handid, rocking Tommy Hilfiger
This entire look by Tommy Hilfiger is my overall pick of the night. Because of how the tone of the dress, sharp cuts, bold fishnet tights and Gigi’s fierce hair and make-up come together to create this prefect blend of classic and edgy.
Hailee Steinfeld in Vera Wang
Bringing new life back to the high-low trend as well as the off the shoulder, Vera Wang successfully dresses Hailee as the next up-and-coming fashion influencer.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively wearing Versace
But seriously when do these two not rock the carpet? The beautiful textures, bright blue gradient and flow of this Versace dress were winners right away.
J-Lo dressed by Valentino
Valentino won me over with the colour, flow and layers of sheer. It was the prefect elegant look for The Met Gala.
Selena Gomez wearing Coach with The Weeknd
Simple yet stunning, the tiny detailed pattern throughout this Coach dress with the high cut slit brought an otherwise standard dress up to Met Gala standards.
And Finally Rihanna…just because she’s Rihanna wearing Commes des Garcons
